Are the grounds pet (specifically dog) feriendly? Taking a week trip to Maine with the family and was going to go. I assume the house is off limits but maybe walking around outside.?
Was very disappointed the website stated that they were open until mid October which is vague my husband and I drove to Campobello Island to specifically see Roosevelt cottage which was completely closed up, staff quickly opened front door as we peek in and said sorry we are completely closed all windows had the curtains drawn and public bathrooms were lockedWill not make that drive from Maine to re visit
MoreTry the tours. They are great. Also the FUN tour. The Prince cafe is very nice and the food is reasonably priced and tasty.
MoreEnjoyed a tour of the homes. All of the guides are friendly. Had tea with Eleanor Roosevelt and it was definitely worth it. The ladies who spoke about Mrs. Roosevelt were sincere. Walked the Friars Head hiking path to the overlook.
MoreLovely estate. Beautiful gardens. Lots of woods to walk through and enjoy the time there. Great history to learn
MoreTake an afternoon to discover the beauty that is Campabello Island. Don't forget to stop and take a free tour of the Roosevelt summer home to take in the history of the Roosevelt's and the life style of the early 1900s. Take a walk down to the water for an ocean view, with the Salmon farm and Eastport Maine in the distance. Possible views of seals swimming around the island. Don't forget to stop at the Prince House nearby to grab some breakfast or lunch.
MoreFDR and Eleanor Roosevelt are fascinating people and were, arguably, just what the US needed at the time: an intelligent and creative president and an intelligent and compassionate first lady. Visit the park to learn more and to see how they "summered". Have "Tea with Eleanor" to learn more about her contributions. Well worth a visit.
MoreThought you knew it all? Think again and stop in to see this place and take one of the parks tours. There is more to know and plenty to learn.
MoreThis is a great place to visit on several levels- first it's a must for history buffs, to experience this home that FDR and Eleanor loved so much, and it doesn't disappoint! The gardens are beautifully maintained, and the natural beauty of the trails around the island is outstanding! Wonderful beaches, and a nice ice-age bog. Liberty Point gives a spectacular view of the Wolves and West Quoddy head, and Family Fisheries is a great local restaurant (with amazing pies) on the road out to the East Quoddy Lighthouse.
MoreWhat a jewel! We did not plan our road trip and had no idea this place existed. It was well worth the trip to see.
MoreVery beautiful grounds ..lots of info.. beautiful cottage..trails.. beachcombing.
MoreWe enjoyed the informative tour of the Roosevelt Cottage and had a delicious lunch at the Prince Cafe. The berry salad was excellent!
MoreBeautiful place. Helpful staff. Wish someone gave me a place like this as wedding gift 😁. Americans bring your passport and go visit the island.
MoreFantastic employees make this place even more special! Go have Tea with Eleanor and learn her legacy. Nice restuarant on site to eat. The staff are so great, even our littlest of children were pleasantly amused and remained focused for each tour and activity we did!
MoreGreat to learn about our history - Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt’s summer home.
What a lovely place to visit and learn about FDR and Eleanor. Learnt a lot about the family, especially Eleanor Roosevelt. Sounds like the kind of first lady we would all appreciate. Enjoyed the island.
MoreWe had a wonderful young lady for a guide! And enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Prince Cottage (BLT & Lobstet Bisque!)
MoreBeautiful cottages, remarkable and knowledgable staff.
When you have money, you can pretty much do what you want, no matter the cost. Very interesting , relaxing and beautiful place, glad we went.
MoreWe are SO glad that we stumbled upon this International Park on our Acadia National Park Vacation. It's only about an hour from Acadia and well worth the visit (just make sure you have your passport!). The free FUN tour was exceptional and the grounds are lovely. Expect to spend 2-3 hours at the park, more if you have time to go hiking. The staff at the visitor's center were friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. This is an incredible International park that celebrates the Roosevelt's US/Canadian connection. Well worth the time.
MoreBeautiful weather. Had excellent guide. Grounds were immaculate.
This haz been on our bucket list for s long time and it was definitely worth seeing and experiencing the island and the home that FDR lived in and grew up in.
MoreBeautifully situated and preserved; knowledgeable tour guides. A nice cooperation between Canada and the USA.
MoreTHIS PLACE IS AMAZING. All the staff was super friendly and helpful. We got some great tips of things to do and places to visit. I loved the nature experts at the lookout points. The tours were great. Parking was easy. Grounds were gorgeous. I highly recommend a visit!
MoreIt is a wonderful park. Beautiful maintained and groomed. Lots of natural area to explore as well as historic cottages.
MoreBeautiful views of the ocean looking towards the USA..Ambiance of the Roosevelt place is one which everyone should experience!
MoreWell-maintained grounds. Not much to see during the winter.
Very interesting place to visit! The staff here were all incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, especially those who gave us the free tour of the residence. Make sure you stop by the Visitors Centre before going any further as they have a wealth of information to offer you. You can easily spend an entire day here exploring the grounds and hiking around the island.
MoreHave Tea with Eleanor is the best way to start your day in the park.
Great Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt site to visit & tour. Tours are every about 15-minutes inside the Roosevelt Summer home. Grounds are very well kept & Staff are all kind and helpful. *Go to the 11am Tea with Eleanor that's at no charge (signups start at 10am first come first serve), 3pm tea has a $14 per person charge for the same thing.
MoreThe house itself is quite pretty. An interesting style and true to it's former furnishings. The guide was funny, kind and informative. The grounds are well kept. There was a Cafe that had decent food. Things of note: the basic tour is free there are more advanced tours at certain hours. There is also a "fun tour" that mentions some of the saucier history of the family. We didn't do either of those tours as we we're on a schedule. Also, Campobello island is in Canada, that part of Canada is Atlantic time zone, so plan appropriately. We intended to do a "tea with Elenore" but missed it because none of us thought of that.
MoreBeen to Campbello 3 times and never made it to this party of the park before. We were very surprised at how large it was, how many groomed trails and wheelchair accessible tails there were. Grandma had lots to enjoy and our teen sons loved being able to bike all over. You could take several days if you wanted to cover all the trails and lookouts. Beautiful!
MoreA magnificent trip! Worth every moment! Beauty, history and creativity blended into a wonderful experience...not to mention a living example of what nations can do when they work together. Don't forget your passport, you are headed through Canada.
MoreBuilding and grounds were well kept. Very beautiful view of the bay.
Lots of trails, beaches, ocean views in the park. The grounds and historic buildings are well maintained. There are nicely presented informative programs and films about the Roosevelts' stay in the area. And there are guided tours as well.
MoreGreat staff informative in the tour. If you want to learn about the history of FDR and the island of campobello this is a make the time stop when here
MoreThe Park is an amazing trip through history. There are tours that one can take or walk the grounds on your own and learn what it was like to be here. The staff are wonderful and know their stuff and seem to always be willing to answer questions you may have. A worthwhile stop.
MoreWe visited the island. We did not visit the Roosevelt cottages. We are more outdoor people than history buffs. The island was beautiful. The overviews were great. Black beach was fun. We walked out to the lighthouse at low tide which was fun. No crowds when we went. Easy to get around.
MoreHighly recommend visiting this historical landmark. Free narrated tour of the family cottage throughout the day. In addition, you can walk down to the water and get a bird's eye view of the bay. And, it's FREE!
MoreQuaint but beautiful homestead. Tea with Eleanor was amazing! Historically informative!
MoreA MUST see. So much info to learn. Beautiful grounds. Many pictures taken for souvenirs
MoreI always love visiting this park. Very nice and accommodating to the visitors. The cottage is especially interesting.
MoreI really enjoyed my visit here. You can feel this history and there is something definitely neat about envisioning FDR spending time here. Its not difficult to see why he enjoyed it; such a beautiful area with incredible views and a peaceful, laid back perspective of living. Unfortunately, due to Covid, the cottage was closed. Entrance staff said when its open its operated as if FDR himself is on the grounds and that would have been neat to see. All in all, it is a large sprawling park at 2,800 acres and there is lots to explore.
MoreAnother historical place preserved for all to see. This one by both Canada and the US. You will need your passport. Beautiful setting.
MoreBeautiful, historic home that is decorated like it was when Roosevelt and his family would stay there.
MoreFun walking tour! My kids loved it here!
The employees here are genuinely sweet, caring people. I made instant friends with most of them. Love everything about my experience here.
MoreHad a fun visit here! So much history! Our guide Roger was friendly and informative! Gorgeous view!
MoreNice facility on the campebello island. Dirt roads can be hiked across highway from visitor center, low traffic, slow vehicles, nice forest views
MoreThis is a beautiful house. I gave it four stars because it is not handicapped accessible at all, which is odd as President Roosevelt was in a wheelchair himself. You would think the Park Service would have made this location easier for the disabled to maneuver through, but, no. Otherwise, it is a wonderful walk through history. Everything is preserved beautifully as it was in the Roosevelt's time. I heartily recommend this as a destination. We combined this with a visit to Hyde Park and the Roosevelt's other home.
MoreVery unique park, a partnership between two countries. Beautifully restored cottage of the presidential family. Well with a visit.
